How to clean a toilet bowl and cistern

It’s not the most glamorous job, but a clean loo = a fresh bathroom. Let’s get it done quickly, effectively, and without the nasties.

Step-by-step guide

Step 1
Drop a Loo Tab into the toilet bowl and let it fizz for 15 minutes while the enzymes work.

Step 2
Scrub the bowl with your Loo Blade (or Toilet Brush), working the fizz into a foamy lather.

Step 3
Use the silicone head to get right under the rim.

Step 4
Flush away for a fresh bowl.

Step 5
For the cistern: pop in a Loo Tab before bed and let it work overnight. Add two if it needs a deeper clean.

Step 6
If there’s heavy mineral build-up in the cistern, a wire brush can help break it down.

Pro tip

The longer you leave Loo Tabs to soak, the harder they’ll work at lifting limescale and grime — less scrubbing, more sparkle.

Safety first: Always wear gloves when cleaning the toilet to protect your skin from germs.

Other notes

• If your loo looks clean but still smells less than fresh, the cistern could be the culprit. Drop in a Loo Tab once a week — it keeps the inside sparkling and knocks out odours before they sneak up on you.

• For an extra shine on the outside, finish with a swipe of Universal Cleaner and a Bathroom Cloth.
