Wheelie bins are the unsung heroes of the household, but they take a beating from food scraps and spills. A Koh clean will banish grime, smells and bacteria, leaving your bin fresher than ever.
What you need
✔ Loo Tablet or Dishwashing Tablet
✔ Universal Cleaner
✔ Atomiser Spray Bottle
✔ Long-handled outdoor broom
✔ Hose
✔ General Cloth
✔ Tea Tree or Eucalyptus Oil
Step-by-step guide
Step 1
Start by removing loose debris from the base of the bin and give it a quick hose down.
Step 2
Pour a little boiling water into the bin along with a Loo Tablet or Dishwashing Tablet, close the lid and let it sit for 10 to 30 minutes to loosen grime.
Step 3
Scrub the inside thoroughly with a long-handled broom, paying attention to the base and sides.
Step 4
Rinse well with a hose until all residue and suds are gone.
Step 5
For the exterior, spray liberally with Universal Cleaner, leave for two minutes and wipe down with a Cloth, including the underside of the lid.
Step 6
Leave the bin open and upside down in the sun to dry completely — UV light helps kill bacteria and a dry bin stays fresher for longer.
Step 7
Finish by adding a few drops of Tea Tree or Eucalyptus Oil to the base for natural deodorising.
Pro tip
A monthly clean keeps your bin from smelling, and leaving it in the sun after rinsing is one of the easiest ways to keep bacteria at bay.
